Every Second is a Miracle

Wow! How quickly time flies.

Our little miracle turned six months old last Friday. Our lives have been blessed in so many ways since Alex joined our family; we can’t even begin to describe the joy and blessings we feel by being his parents. Alex is a wonderfully happy baby almost all of the time. He makes other people happy just by being around him…including his mommy who was never really much of a morning person until he started smiling at her!

It’s been a very busy month since my last post, so I’ll jump right in with the good stuff... Alex got his first teeth almost a week after Mother’s Day. On May 18, the bumps Mommy and Daddy had noticed on his bottom gums had turned into two teeny-tiny, sharp teeth.

On June 9, we all headed to Norman to have pictures taken. Aunt Renee, Uncle McK (Lonnie’s sister and bro-in-law) and cousin, Peyton, joined us. It was a great morning for family pictures and Alex did a wonderful job posing. (I’ll post them soon!) After pictures, we joined Nana and Papa (Lonnie’s parents) for lunch and then headed to Aunt Renee and Uncle McK’s house for a while. Nana and Papa volunteered to watch Alex for the entire afternoon, so Mommy and Daddy went window shopping, had a very nice dinner (at Ihop…LOL), and went to a wedding for one of Daddy’s coworkers. We arrived home to a played-out, full-tummy, sleeping Alex. Everyone had a great day!

After a very sudden interest in whatever Mommy and Daddy were eating at smash burger the day before, Alex had his first real meal on June 11, 2012—peas mixed with his normal dinner of cereal. He was not a fan! So the next night we tried straight peas. He loved them! Since then he has also had green beans. This week we will try sweet potatoes! Look out world, soon Alex will be eating hamburgers and French fries before you know it!  

On Father’s Day morning, the whole family went to church together like we do every Sunday and Daddy got to attend his very first Father’s Day brunch! He had a great time and really loved the meal that was served. That afternoon Mommy made a great lunch and we spent the afternoon hanging out and watching a movie (Iron Man) at home. Alex presented Daddy with a hard cover case for his iPhone (complete with pictures of the two of them on it) and a mouse pad that says “Dad, you’re the best!” (with a picture of the little man of course!)

Last weekend, Alex had his first road trip, weekend away from home, and visited his first foreign county!  On Friday morning Mommy loaded up the car and she and Alex hit the road. Alex and Mommy held their breath as they crossed the Red River (For those of you who don’t know… the Red River separates Oklahoma from the foreign country of Texas!).  They picked up Mommy’s sister just over the border in Gainesville and headed to Dallas for a day filled with shopping, fun and In-N-Out Burgers (for Mommy and Aunt Katy anyway).

Alex was a perfect angel as we went from store to store. Finally, at 6:30pm he let us know he was simply too tired to continue so we headed back to Gainesville for dinner and some much needed sleep. Just as Alex was about to finish his dinner, Daddy, Grandpa and Grammy showed up, and sleep was soon forgotten in exchange for some playtime. Saturday morning, Alex joined everyone in the pool for his very first swim. We officially have a water baby on our hands. He loved the pool! We’ll be looking for swimming lessons before too long!

This morning we visited Dr. Loveless to get an update on just how awesome Alex is (not that we don’t already know!). At 26” tall, he is in the 25% for his age. His weight is between 25% - 50% at 16lbs 13oz. However, his brain is huge! J At 45.5 cm, his head circumference is between 75% - 90%. Dr. Loveless was very pleased with his developmental progress so far and told us that he will be crawling and trying to stand on his own soon, so we should baby proof the house and lower his mattress now. I can’t believe how quickly our little miracle is growing!

Milestones at six months: Distinguishes between bold colors; shows a preference for red. Drinking from a Sippy cup. Plays with his hands and feet. Picks up objects and moves them from hand to hand. Can roll over in both directions and sit momentarily without support. Imitating sounds. Lunges forward when seated to reach for something. Trying to crawl.
